Quarks, diquarks, and QCD mixing in the N resonance spectrum

چکیده
We identify a ‘‘ selection rule’’ for N resonances in the presence of QCD mixing effects. We quantify these mixing effects from existing data and predict amplitudes for exciting 20 representations in SU(6), which are forbidden in strict diquark models. By classifying Particle-Data-Group (PDG) states at N 2, we show that N ! K , K , K , K , and J= ! pN are ideal probes of baryon dynamics and for establishing whether strongly correlated diquarks survive for L > 0.

Selection rules and quark correlations in the N resonance spectrum
A “Λ selection rule” for N∗ resonances in the presence of QCD mixing effects is identified. Due to the QCD mixing, excitations of 20-plets are possible in SU(6). We show that this selection rule is useful for classifying PDG states at N = 2, and for clarifying whether strongly correlated diquarks survive for

It has been argued recently that diquarks, a pair of quarks in the anti-triplet representation of SU(3) color, are important building blocks of baryons. The assumption that the scalar diquark is tightly bound seems to be nicely accommodated by experimental data. In this paper I attempt to extract phenomenological properties of diquarks from lattice QCD calculations. In particular, I use the MIL...

We describe aspects of the role that diquark correlations play in understanding baryon structure and interactions. The significance of diquarks in that application motivates a study of the possibility that dense hadronic matter may exhibit di-quark condensation; i.e., quark-quark pairing promoted by a quark chemical potential. A Gorkov-Nambu-like gap equation is introduced for QCD and analysed ...

We present arguments regarding diquarks’ possible role in low-energy hadron phenomenology that escaped theorists’ attention so far. Good diquarks, i.e. the 0+ states of two quarks, are argued to have a two-component structure with one of the components peaking at distances several times shorter than a typical hadron size (a short-range core). This can play a role in solving two old puzzles of t...

Attraction between quarks is a fundamental aspect of QCD. It is plausible that several of the most profound aspects of low-energy QCD dynamics are connected to diquark correlations, including: paucity of exotics (which is the foundation of the quark model and of traditional nuclear physics), similarity of mesons and baryons, color superconductivity at high density, hyperfine splittings, ∆I = 1/...
